Of the eight choirs in the NSMS Mustang Choir Department, six are UIL Competition Choirs. The University Interscholastic League sponsors a contest for choral groups. The contest is judged in two parts: a prepared concert and a sight-reading selection. The panel of three judges in each section rate the group on a scale of I-V, I being the best. Groups who score straight I (Superior) ratings are said to have won a SWEEPSTAKES.
